Date: March 23-24, 2021
Women’s Month Celebration serves as a venue of highlighting the achievement of women in the world. March 8 has long been observed as “Women’s Day” to commemorate the organized activities and demonstrations of women in the early 20th Century. During that time, working women were protesting against low wages, a lack of protective legislation, unfair labor practices and very poor conditions in their workplace.
In the Philippines, National Women’s Month is held during the whole month of March. The said celebration serves as a venue to recognize and focus on concrete activities for women that are aligned with national and international instruments and treaties such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, the Beijing Platform for Action, the Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development (1995-2025), the Framework Plan for Women, and the Sustainable Development
This year’s theme: Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world. San Juan Water District is one with our government in honoring women leaders, specially the women movers and shakers in our community. The pandemic has been tough for everyone, but most especially to the women leaders in the barangays. As a way of thanking them, SJWD distributed uniforms with the said theme printed to all women barangay councilors, health workers and public safety officers. Said uniforms were distributed to all barangays in which we have service connections.
This may be a small gesture, but these uniforms make a great impact to these women. It says that we are proud of them and we are thankful for everything that they have done over the past year for our community. Most of the time, the barangays cannot afford to shell out uniforms for their key personnel, so it is a big deal when they are given these shirts which will serve as their uniforms. They take pride in what they do and we see this in the sacrifices they make in our barangays. In our office’s own little way, we were able to give back to these great women and hoping to do so in the coming years as well.
